The Industrial Management Department is one of the three Departments of the School of Mechanical Engineering of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The main objective of Industrial Management Department is to educate young engineers and to conduct research in the wider field of organization and management of production systems. Specifically, the Industrial Management Department is mainly active in the following disciplines:

Laboratories

Laboratory of Quantitative Analysis, Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LASCM)

The Laboratory of Statistics and Quantitative Analysis Methods – Logistics and Supply Chain Management (LASCM) of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, was established in 2002. LASCM aims at the development and practical implementation of high-level scientific knowledge on the broad thematic areas of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, as well as their distribution in society for fostering national economy and sustainable development in Greece.

LASCM’s main research fields include Supply Chain Management / Reverse Logistics, Green Supply Chain Management, Intermodal Logistics, Inventory Management, Management Information Systems, Security and Supply Chain Management, Public Policy-Making / Regulatory Interventions, as well as Supply Chain Risk Management.

Apart from significant academic accomplishments (200+ publications in international journals, conference proceeding and books), the Lab has conducted applied research as Leader / Partner in 18 National/European Projects funded by European Commission and various public and private organizations in Greece or abroad. Indicatively, these project dealt with: Strategic Supply Chain Design and Best Inventory Management Practices, Feasibility Studies for initiating Shipping Lines in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Feasibility Study for the Operation of a Freight Village in the Region, Design, Planning and Policy Making for Sustainable Agri-food Supply Chains, Design of Education and Training Programs in Logistics, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), as well as Strategic Master Plan for Port Network Development.

Laboratory of Business Administration (LBA)

The Laboratory of Business Administration (LBA) has been operating within the Industrial Management Department of the School of Mechanical Engineering since 1993. The Laboratory satisfies educational and research needs in the scientific area of Business Administration, with emphasis on the systematic treatment of issues related to Production Management with the aid of quantitative methods. LBA is located on the 7th floor of Building D at the School of Engineering.

The research activity of LBA focuses on production planning and control, quality assurance, maintenance, inventory management, reverse logistics, system dynamics. The research activity takes the form of basic research, which translates to scientific publications in international academic journals, and applied research with direct applications to the improvement of operations and economic efficiency of companies and organizations in the private and public sector, as documented by the results of a substantial number of funded research projects.
